Android — End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy

CRS.

Google and Apple have made us put this here not that anyone is likely to read it. So if you see this, Hello!

These documents cover the Android version of CG Pager. If you are using the iOS app, its agreement and policy are on a separate page.

End User License Agreement

Version 3.0.0 · Effective 5 August 2026

1. About these terms
These terms are a licence agreement between you and Aurora Services Group LTD ("Aurora", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13574563), whose registered office is at 167-169 Great Portland Street, London, England, W1W 5PF. By installing or using CG Pager ("the App") you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the App.

The App is free of charge. Aurora provides it and is solely responsible for it and for supporting it. Google is not a party to these terms and has no obligation or liability in respect of the App.

2. Not an official Coastguard product
CG Pager is an independent app provided by Aurora Services Group LTD. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, supplied by or supported by HM Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, or any other government body. Those names are used in the App and in these terms only to describe what the App is for.
3. Licence
Aurora grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the App on a device you own or control, solely to receive and respond to HM Coastguard Alerting & Tasking (A&T) messages as an authorised Coastguard Rescue volunteer. You must be 18 or over to use the App.

4. What the App does
So that you know what you are agreeing to, in summary the App:
• watches the text messages your phone receives for the formats the A&T system sends — Attendance Request, Intermediate Message, Incident Summary, Stand Down, and availability confirmations — and, when one arrives, shows a full-screen alert with sound and vibration. Incident Summary and Stand Down alerts are raised only if you switch them on in Settings.
• sends text messages on your instruction: the single-digit attendance response you tap, and the availability updates you choose, both to the A&T gateway.
• sends, only if you enable and configure it, a separate notification text message to one contact number of your choosing, to let a partner or family member know you have been called out.
• keeps a copy of the most recent message of each type on your device, so you can read it again from the App's menu.
• if you have granted Do Not Disturb access in your Android settings, returns your ringer to normal and raises the ring volume when an alert arrives, so that it can be heard on a silenced phone. Stand Down alerts leave a silenced phone silent if you have chosen that option in Settings. Without that access the App does not change your ringer.
• removes from your phone's normal messaging app those messages it has confirmed came from a recognised A&T gateway number, so that you are not left holding a duplicate copy of an operational tasking. A message that matches an A&T format but comes from a number the App does not recognise is deliberately left in your messaging app, and the alert is marked with a warning naming the sender, so that you can judge whether it is genuine.
The Privacy Policy at https://join.aurorapaging.com/crs-eula-privacy-android, also readable in the App under Settings → Legal, explains what happens to this information.

5. Purpose and limitations
The App is a supplementary aid that relays and displays SMS messages from the A&T system. It is not a replacement for official Coastguard equipment, procedures, or communication channels, and must not be relied upon as the sole means of receiving a tasking. Message delivery depends on your device, mobile network, and the Android system, none of which Aurora controls or guarantees.
You are responsible for satisfying yourself that the App alerts correctly on your own device: after installing it, after granting or changing any of the permissions in section 7, and after restoring the App onto a new or reset handset. A restore returns your settings but not the permissions the App needs, so a restored installation can look correctly configured and never alert. The Help page in the App explains how to test it.

6. Messages you send, and charges
Text messages the App sends are sent from your device over your mobile network, and your network operator's standard charges for them apply. Aurora does not send them on your behalf and does not receive them.
You are responsible for the numbers you configure in the App. If you enable the partner notification described in section 4, you are responsible for entering the correct number and for that person being content to receive those messages.

7. Permissions
The App asks for the permissions below. Refusing one will generally make alerting less reliable rather than stopping the App altogether, because where it can the App falls back to another method — but it may mean an alert does not reach you.
• Receive SMS — to detect incoming A&T messages and raise alerts. The App reads only the messages delivered to it as they arrive. It does not open your existing message inbox, it is not your default messaging app, and it does not ask to be.
• Send SMS — to send your responses and availability updates, and the partner notification if you have enabled it.
• Notifications, and display over other apps — to show the full-screen alert reliably, including over the lock screen. If notifications are refused, the App falls back to displaying the alert over other apps.
• Full-screen intent — to present the alert full-screen when your phone is locked or its screen is off.
• Vibrate — for the alert vibration.
• Do Not Disturb access (optional; granted by you in your Android settings) — so that an alert can be heard on a phone that has been silenced, as described in section 4.
• Read access to one audio file you choose (optional) — only the file you pick if you set your own alert sound, and only for playing it as an alert tone.

8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the App for any purpose other than its intended Coastguard alerting function, and not to sell, rent, sublicense or otherwise commercially exploit it, or distribute a modified version of it, or present it as your own.
You may install builds supplied by Aurora on devices you own or control, and Coastguard volunteers may install a build supplied to them by Aurora or by their team — including by installing the app file directly, which is how version 3.0.0 is distributed.
You agree not to modify, adapt or create derivative works of the App, and not to reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent that such acts cannot lawfully be prohibited — including anything permitted by sections 50B and 50BA of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

9. Third-party components
The App includes open-source software licensed by its authors under their own terms, including components distributed under the Apache License 2.0. Nothing in section 8 restricts any right you have under those licences, which prevail over these terms in respect of those components. The applicable notices are available at [NOTICES LOCATION].

10. No warranty
The App is provided 'as is', without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose or guaranteed delivery of alerts. We do not warrant that the App will operate without interruption or error, or that every message sent to your device will be detected or alerted.

11. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:
• death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
• fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
• any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, Aurora is not liable for any loss, damage or other consequence arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App — including a tasking that is missed, delayed, not detected or not alerted. This is why the App must not be relied upon as your sole means of receiving a tasking (section 5).
Subject to the first paragraph of this section, and to the extent that liability cannot lawfully be excluded, Aurora's total liability to you in connection with the App is limited to £100.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms — for example if the App's function or the permissions it needs change. An updated version will be made available in the App and at https://join.aurorapaging.com/crs-eula-privacy-android, showing the date it takes effect. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means you accept the change; if you do not accept it, stop using the App and uninstall it.

13. Termination
This licence ends automatically if you uninstall the App, if you cease to be an authorised Coastguard Rescue volunteer, or if you breach these terms. Aurora may also stop providing or supporting the App, or end this licence, on reasonable notice. When this licence ends you must stop using the App and uninstall it.
Sections 10, 11, 14 and 15 continue to apply after this licence ends.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protection given to you by the law of the nation you live in, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that nation.
15. General
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. A delay in enforcing these terms is not a waiver of our rights. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and Aurora in respect of the App.

16. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to support@aurorapaging.com. Questions about how the App handles your information should go to our Data Protection Officer, Alexander Rollin, at alex.rollin@aurora-services.co.uk, or see the Privacy Policy.

Privacy Policy

Version 3.0.0 · Effective 5 August 2026

1. About this policy and who we are
CG Pager ("the App") is provided by Aurora Services Group LTD ("Aurora", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13574563), whose registered office is at 167-169 Great Portland Street, London, England, W1W 5PF.

You can contact us about this policy at support@aurorapaging.com. Our Data Protection Officer is Alexander Rollin, who can be reached at alex.rollin@aurora-services.co.uk.

Two things are worth saying at the outset, because they shape everything below.
The App has no server of its own, and Aurora receives nothing. Everything the App does with your information happens on your own phone. We cannot see your messages, your settings, or your contacts, and we have no copy of any of it. Where this policy describes the App "processing" information, that means processing carried out on your own device, at your instruction.

This policy covers the App only. It does not cover how HM Coastguard or the Maritime and Coastguard Agency handle your registration with the Alerting & Tasking (A&T) system, the messages they send you, or the responses you send back — that is their processing, described in their own privacy information, not ours. CG Pager is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supplied by HM Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, or any other government body.

2. What the App does
CG Pager watches the text messages your phone receives for the formats the A&T system sends — Attendance Request, Intermediate Message, Incident Summary, Stand Down, and availability confirmations — and, when one arrives, shows a full-screen alert with sound and vibration. You can then send a response back to the A&T system, and optionally have the App send a separate notification text to a partner or contact number you choose. Incident Summary and Stand Down alerts are raised only if you switch them on in Settings.
To do this the App has to look briefly at every text message your phone receives, so that it can tell whether the message is one it should alert on. Messages that do not match are not stored, not displayed and not acted on, and the App keeps no record that they arrived.
Two further behaviours are worth knowing about:
• If you have granted Do Not Disturb access in your Android settings, the App sets the ringer back to normal and raises the ring volume when an alert arrives, so that it can be heard on a silenced phone. Stand Down alerts leave a silenced phone silent if you have chosen that option in Settings. Without that access the App does not change your ringer.
• Messages the App confirms came from a recognised A&T gateway number are removed from your phone's normal messaging app, so that you are not left holding a duplicate copy of an operational tasking. A message that matches an A&T format but comes from a number the App does not recognise is deliberately left in your messaging app, and the alert is marked with a warning naming the sender, so that you can judge whether it is genuine.

3. What information the App processes
• The content of incoming SMS messages matching the formats above, so they can be displayed and trigger the correct alert.
• The phone number the matching message came from. The App checks it against the A&T gateway numbers it knows. If the number is not recognised, it is shown to you in a warning at the top of the alert, and is kept as part of the stored copy of that message described below.
• The content of other incoming messages, momentarily and only to test whether they match — see section 2.
• Your chosen settings: your alert tones, including the location and name of an audio file on your device if you choose your own sound; whether Incident Summary and Stand Down alerts are enabled; the Stand Down volume and whether Stand Down alerts respect Silent mode; and, if you turn it on, a partner phone number and message text.
• The most recent Attendance Request, Intermediate Message, Incident Summary and Stand Down, kept only so you can review them again from the App's menu. Availability confirmations are shown but not stored.
Please note that the content of an A&T message can include operational detail about an incident — locations, and information about members of the public involved in it. Where that is so, it is held on your phone in the stored copy described above, and is included in the Android backup described in section 5. Handle it in line with the information-handling rules that apply to you as a Coastguard volunteer.

4. Our legal basis
The on-device processing described in section 3 is carried out by the App at your instruction, to provide you with the functionality you installed it for. It is necessary for the performance of the licence agreement between you and Aurora, which is published alongside this policy at https://join.aurorapaging.com/crs-eula-privacy-android.
The optional features — the partner notification, choosing your own alert sound, and allowing the App to override Silent mode — operate only if you switch them on, and you can switch them off again at any time in Settings, or by withdrawing the relevant Android permission.
Aurora holds no personal data about you, so there is no processing by us for which a separate legal basis is needed.

5. Where information goes
The App has no backend server. Your data is stored on your device, using standard Android app storage, and is not sent anywhere except:
• Your response SMS, sent to the A&T control number when you tap Respond or change your availability. That number is operated for HM Coastguard, who handle what you send under their own privacy information.
• Your partner notification SMS (only if you've enabled and configured this feature), sent to the number you provided.
• Your mobile network operator carries every message the App receives and every message it sends, and handles them under its own terms — as it does for any text message on your phone.
• Android backup. The App permits Android's standard backup service to include its data, so your settings and the cached copies of your most recent messages may be copied to your Google account (Google Drive) and restored if you set up a new device. This is performed by Android and Google rather than by the App, and is governed by Google's privacy policy and your device's backup settings. You can prevent it by turning backup off for this App, or for the whole device, in your Android settings. Google may store and transfer that backup outside the United Kingdom, under the safeguards described in its own terms.
Nothing is sent to Aurora, and no data is sent to any analytics or advertising service. The App contains no advertising and no analytics software.

6. Permissions and why the App needs them
• Receive SMS: to detect incoming A&T messages and trigger alerts. The App reads only the messages delivered to it as they arrive. It does not open the messages already stored on your phone, it is not your default messaging app, and it does not ask to be.
• Send SMS: to send your response and availability updates and, if enabled, partner notifications.
• Notifications, and display over other apps: to show the full-screen alert reliably, including over the lock screen. If notifications are refused, the App falls back to displaying the alert over other apps.
• Full-screen intent: to present the alert full-screen when your phone is locked or its screen is off.
• Vibrate: for the alert vibration pattern.
• Do Not Disturb access (optional; granted by you in your Android settings): so that an alert can be heard on a phone that has been silenced, as described in section 2. The App uses it only to return the ringer to normal when an alert arrives.
• Read access to one audio file you choose (optional): only the file you pick as your own alert tone, and only in order to play it as an alert tone.

7. Data retention and deletion
Your settings and the most recent cached messages remain on your device until you clear the App's storage or uninstall it, at which point Android removes them from the device.
Only the most recent message of each type is kept: each new message replaces the previous one of that type, and a new Attendance Request also clears the stored Intermediate Message and Incident Summary, so that a past incident's detail does not linger on those screens.
If Android has backed the App's data up to your Google account (see section 5), that copy is held by Google and is not removed by uninstalling the App. It is retained and deleted according to Google's backup rules and your device's backup settings, and you can delete it yourself from your Google account's backup settings.

8. Keeping information secure
The App stores its settings and its cached messages in its own private storage area, which other apps on your phone cannot read. It sends nothing over the internet, so there is no transmission for us to protect. On-device data is protected by your phone's own encryption and screen lock.
Because the point of the App is to alert you when your phone is locked, the content of an alert is displayed on the lock screen. Anyone with physical access to your unattended phone may therefore be able to read a tasking. Using a screen lock, and keeping your phone with you, is the practical protection for that.

9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct, erase and restrict the use of your personal data, to object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form.
Because Aurora holds no personal data about you, there is in practice nothing for us to give you access to, correct or erase — but you are welcome to contact us at support@aurorapaging.com and we will confirm that position, and help where we can. The information described in this policy is under your own control:
• Data on your phone: clear the App's storage or uninstall the App (section 7), or change any setting in the App at any time.
• The Google backup copy: delete it from your Google account's backup settings (section 5).
• Messages you have sent to HM Coastguard, or your registration with the A&T system: contact HM Coastguard, since we hold neither.
If you are unhappy with how your personal data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.

10. Children
This App is intended for authorised Coastguard Rescue volunteers aged 18 or over and is not directed at children.

11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, an updated version will be made available within the App and at https://join.aurorapaging.com/crs-eula-privacy-android, showing the date it takes effect. Where a change materially affects how the App handles your information, we will make that clear in the App rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
