iOS — End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy

CRS.

Google and Apple have made us put this here not that anyone is likely to read it. So if you see this, Hello!

These documents cover the iOS version of CG Pager. If you are using the Android app, its agreement and policy are on a separate page.

End User License Agreement

Version 1.1. Effective 5 August 2026.

Not an official Coastguard product
CG Pager is an independent app provided by Aurora Services Group LTD. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, supplied by or supported by HM Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, or any other government body. Those names are used in the App and in these terms only to describe what the App is for.

1. This agreement, and who it is with
This End-User Licence Agreement is between you and Aurora Services Group LTD ("Aurora", "we", "us"). It covers your use of CG Pager ("the App").
Apple Inc. is not a party to this agreement. Aurora alone is responsible for the App and its contents, and Apple has no responsibility for the App whatsoever.
Aurora grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the App solely to receive and respond to HM Coastguard Alerting & Tasking (A&T) messages as an authorised Coastguard Rescue volunteer.

2. Scope of the licence
You may use the App on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. Those Usage Rules also govern use of the App by other members of your Family Sharing group, where that applies.
The licence covers use of the App itself. It does not transfer ownership of anything. The App, its code, its text and its bundled alert tones remain the property of Aurora or of those who licensed them to us.
You agree not to sell, rent, sub-licence or redistribute the App, and not to reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.

3. What the App is for, and what it is not
The App is a supplementary aid. It displays A&T messages that are passed to it and helps you respond to them.
It is not a replacement for official Coastguard equipment, procedures or communication channels, and must not be relied upon as your sole means of receiving a tasking.
The App is not an official HM Coastguard application. Aurora is an independent company, and the App is neither supplied, approved nor endorsed by HM Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, or any part of His Majesty's Government. It is a volunteer tool for officers who already receive A&T messages by text.
You must use the App only alongside the procedures your own Coastguard Rescue Team expects of you, and not in place of them.

4. Delivery of alerts cannot be guaranteed
Whether an alert reaches you depends on your device, your mobile network, iOS, the notification settings on your phone, and the Shortcuts automation you set up. Aurora controls none of these and cannot guarantee any of them.
In particular, iOS may disable a Shortcuts automation after a system update or a restart, and the App has no way to detect this in advance or to re-enable it. The Setup & Status screen shows whether messages are actually reaching the App, and you should check it periodically. Treat a long quiet spell as a reason to test rather than as proof that nothing has happened.

5. Permissions, and what the App can see
The App asks for permission to show notifications. It asks for no other permission, and it requests no access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.
When it asks for notification permission it also asks to be allowed to send critical alerts. Where Apple has granted Aurora the entitlement for this, an alert may sound at ringer volume even when your phone is set to silent or a Focus such as Do Not Disturb is switched on. That is deliberate, because a pager that can be silenced by accident is of little use. You can withdraw it at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Notifications for CG Pager.
The App cannot read your text messages. iOS does not permit any app to do so, and the App does not ask for it. It cannot read messages that arrived before you set your automation up, and it can read nothing at all if you delete that automation.
The message text the App sees is passed to it, one message at a time, by either of two routes:
• Your own Shortcuts automation, from the sender you chose when you set it up.
• A direct link to the App of the form cgpager://alert, which another app or shortcut on your device can use to hand a message to the App. This route exists so that the App can be tested without waiting for a real tasking.
Nothing the App receives is forwarded anywhere. The App has no server and makes no network connections of any kind, so a message cannot leave your phone unless you send it yourself from the system compose sheet. The most recent message of each type is stored on your phone so that you can read it again, and it is removed when you delete the App.
If you choose your own audio file as an alert tone, the App keeps a reference to that file so it can play it when an alert arrives. It reads no other file on your device.
The Privacy Policy sets all of this out in more detail.

6. Your responsibilities
You confirm that you are aged 18 or over and are an authorised Coastguard Rescue volunteer, or are otherwise entitled to receive the A&T messages you are using the App with.
You are responsible for the numbers and message text you enter into the App. If you use the partner notification feature, you are responsible for having the agreement of the person whose number you enter before their number is used.
You agree to comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the App, including those of your mobile network and of Apple.
You agree not to use the App for any purpose other than the Coastguard alerting function it is intended for.

7. No warranty
The App is provided 'as is' and 'as available', without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. In particular Aurora does not warrant that the App will be free from faults, that it will be available at any given moment, or that any alert will be delivered, delivered on time, or audible when it arrives.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple gives no warranty in respect of the App. Should the App fail to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund any purchase price you paid for it. The App is supplied free of charge, so no such refund would arise. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation of any kind in respect of the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are Aurora's responsibility rather than Apple's.

8. Limits on liability
Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits Aurora's liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected by this agreement.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law permits, Aurora is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the App or from being unable to use it, including a tasking you do not receive, do not hear, or receive late.
If you are a consumer, this agreement gives you rights in addition to your statutory ones and takes nothing away from them.

9. Claims, and intellectual property
Aurora, and not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party makes relating to the App or to your possession or use of it. That includes product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, data protection or similar legislation.
If a third party claims that the App infringes their intellectual property rights, Aurora, and not Apple, is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.

10. Maintenance and support
Aurora is solely responsible for any maintenance or support for the App. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
Support requests should go to support@aurorapaging.com. Aurora aims to answer them but does not commit to any particular response time, and does not undertake to keep the App available indefinitely.

11. Legal compliance
You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a United States Government embargo, or that the United States Government has designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

12. Changes to the App and to these terms
Aurora may update the App, change how it works, or stop supporting it. We may also change these terms, for example to reflect a change in the App or in the law.
Where we change these terms, the updated version will be made available in the App. If a change materially reduces your rights, continuing to use the App after the updated terms appear is how you accept them. If you do not accept them, you should stop using the App and delete it.

13. Termination
This licence ends automatically if you delete the App or if you breach these terms.
Aurora may end this licence, or withdraw the App, by giving notice in the App or by email where we hold your address. We would not normally do so without reason.
Ending the licence does not affect anything that happened before it ended.

14. Apple as a third-party beneficiary
You and Aurora acknowledge that Apple Inc. and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement, and that Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce this agreement against you as a third-party beneficiary of it.

15. General
If any part of this agreement is found to be unenforceable, the rest of it continues to apply.
This agreement, together with the Privacy Policy, is the whole agreement between you and Aurora about the App.
This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts there.

Privacy Policy

Version 1.1. Effective 5 August 2026.

1. What this app does
CG Pager alerts you to messages from the HM Coastguard Alerting & Tasking (A&T) system.
iOS does not allow any app to read your text messages, so CG Pager does not and cannot do so. Instead, you set up a Shortcuts automation once, which passes the text of a message from the A&T sender to the App. The App checks whether it matches a known format (Attendance Request, Intermediate Message, Incident Summary, Stand Down) and, if it does, alerts you with a notification, a tone and a vibration. You can then send a response back to the A&T system, and optionally send a separate notification text to a partner or contact number you choose.

2. What data the App processes
• The text of messages passed to it, so they can be displayed and can trigger the correct alert. Section 4 explains exactly how a message reaches the App.
• Your chosen settings: alert tones, whether Stand Down and Incident Summary alerts are enabled, Stand Down volume, and (if you turn it on) a partner phone number and message text.
• If you pick your own audio file as an alert tone, a reference to that file, so the App can play it when an alert arrives. The App does not copy the file and reads no other file on your device.
• The most recent message of each type, kept only so you can review it again from the App's menu.
• Whether any message has ever reached the App, and when the most recent one arrived, so the Setup & Status screen can tell you whether your automation is working.
• Whether you have seen the short briefing the App shows the first time you open it, so it is not shown again.
That is the complete list. There is nothing else.

3. Where your data goes
Everything above is stored only on your device. The App has no server, no account and makes no network requests of any kind. Nothing is sent to Aurora, to any analytics or advertising service, or to any other third party, so there is no sharing of your information for us to describe and no transfer of it out of the United Kingdom.
Two things do leave your phone, and only because you send them yourself:
• Your response to the A&T system, when you tap Respond or change your availability. The App prepares a text message and iOS requires that you tap Send yourself, because no app can send a message on your behalf.
• Your partner notification, if you have turned that feature on and set it up, to the number you provided. This also requires you to tap Send.
Once you tap Send, that message is an ordinary text message. It travels over your mobile network to the A&T system or to your partner, and what those recipients and your network operator do with it is governed by their own terms and privacy notices rather than this one. Aurora has no part in it and never sees it.

4. Permissions, and what the App can see
The App asks for permission to show notifications. That is the only permission it asks for.
When it asks, it also asks to be allowed to send critical alerts. Where Apple has granted Aurora the entitlement for this, an alert can sound at ringer volume even when your phone is set to silent or a Focus such as Do Not Disturb is switched on. That is deliberate, because a pager that can be silenced by accident is of little use to anyone. Section 5 explains how to turn it off.
The App has no access to your text messages. iOS does not allow it, and the App does not ask for it. It cannot read any other message on your phone, it cannot read messages that arrived before you set your automation up, and it can read nothing at all if you delete that automation.
Message text reaches the App one message at a time, by one of two routes:
• Your own Shortcuts automation, from the sender you chose when you set it up. This is the route the App is designed around and the one you will use.
• A direct link to the App of the form cgpager://alert, which another app or shortcut on your device can use to hand it a message. This exists so the App can be tested without waiting for a real tasking, and so a colleague can help you check your setup.
Nothing the App receives is forwarded anywhere. There is no server and the App makes no network connections, so a message cannot leave your phone unless you send it yourself from the compose sheet. The most recent message of each type is stored on your phone so that you can read it again from the menu, as described in sections 2 and 6, and it is deleted along with the App.
The App also has no access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera, and does not ask for them.

5. Turning it off, and taking permissions away
You can withdraw anything you have agreed to, at any time, and you do not need to ask us:
• To stop notifications, or to stop critical alerts overriding silent mode while keeping ordinary ones: iOS Settings app, then Notifications, then CG Pager.
• To stop messages reaching the App at all: open the Shortcuts app and delete or disable the automation you created. The App then has no way of receiving anything.
• To clear a partner number or message you no longer want stored: change or empty those fields in the App's Settings screen.
• To remove everything: delete the App, as described in section 6.
Turning notifications off leaves the App unable to alert you properly, so it is not something to do while you are on call.

6. Data retention and deletion
Your settings and the most recent stored messages remain on your device until you delete the App, at which point iOS removes them with it. There is nothing kept anywhere else, so there is nothing for you to ask us to delete and no copy of it for us to hold.
The App keeps only the most recent message of each type. An older one is overwritten as soon as a newer message of that type arrives.

7. Your rights, and the basis for processing
Where Aurora is treated as responsible for the processing described here, our basis for it is our legitimate interest in providing a working alerting tool to Coastguard Rescue volunteers who choose to install it.
UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal information, including the right to be told what is held, to see it, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. In practice these are satisfied by the design rather than by asking us: everything is on your own device, where you can see it in the App, change it in Settings, and delete all of it by deleting the App. Aurora holds no copy and has no means of retrieving one.
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, at the address in section 10, so we have a chance to put it right.

8. Children
This App is intended for authorised adult Coastguard Rescue volunteers and is not directed at children.

9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, an updated version will be made available within the App, and the version and date at the top of it will change. Material changes will be brought to your attention rather than left to be noticed.

10. Who is responsible, and how to get in touch
CG Pager is published by:

Aurora Services Group LTD
167-169 Great Portland Street
London
W1W 5PF
United Kingdom

Registered in England and Wales, company number 13574563.

Aurora decides what the App does with information on your device, so for the purposes of UK data protection law Aurora is the controller in respect of that processing, even though none of it reaches us and we have no way of seeing any of it.

Questions about this policy, requests about your information, and complaints can be sent to support@aurorapaging.com.
